Manage DNS Records in Other Providers

Updated on 30 August 2024

When you transfer your project to Hostman from another provider, move it to another server within Hostman, or change the server IP address, you need to make sure that your domain A record points to the server you need.

This should be done with your DNS hosting provider, basically, the owner of the nameservers the domain is hosted on.

If your domain is using our nameservers:

ns1.hostman.com
ns2.hostman.com

— then you can change the A record and other DNS in the Domains section of your Hostman account, as described here.

If the domain has different nameservers and you are not sure who the DNS hosting provider is, contact your domain Registrar support. To get information about your domain, you can use ICANN domain lookup.

If you wish to edit DNS records through Hostman in the future, you need to set up Hostman nameservers listed above in your DNS hosting provider account.

In this guide, we will describe how to set up A record and nameservers in GoDaddy, one of the most popular domain registrars.

With other providers the overall process will be similar: somewhere in the domain settings or DNS settings there will be the options to change the A record and nameservers. However, to get the exact instructions, please check links below or contact your domain provider support.

Setting Up A Record in GoDaddy

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account and go to Domain Portfolio.

  2. Click on the domain.

  3. Go to DNSDNS Records.

  4. Find the A record with the name @.

  5. Click on the Edit icon on the right.

  6. In the Value box, enter the IP address of your Hostman server.

  7. Click Save.

Normally, updating the A record will take up to 3 hours; in rare cases, it can be up to 24-48 hours.

More details are available in the GoDaddy Help Center.
