Manage Domains

Every app in App Platform gets a free technical domain, and you can add your own custom domains. App Platform automatically issues a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate for each domain.

When you create an app, App Platform assigns a free technical domain to it and issues a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate.

  • Frontend apps: the app becomes available on this domain as soon as the first deploy completes, so you can test it right away.
  • Backend apps: use the technical domain for testing and in production, for direct requests to the app.

Add a Custom Domain

You can add any number of domains to a single app. App Platform automatically issues a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate for each custom domain and renews it one week before it expires. To use your own certificate instead, see Configure a Custom SSL Certificate.

Before you start, check where the domain's DNS is managed. To manage it in Hostman, point the domain to the Hostman nameservers:

ns1.hostman.com
ns2.hostman.com

To add a domain to your app:

  1. Go to App Platform and select your app.
  2. Open the Settings tab.
  3. In the Domains section, click Edit.
  4. Choose how to add the domain:
    • If the domain uses Hostman nameservers, select it from the list.
    • If the domain's DNS is managed by another provider:
      1. Select External domain and enter the domain name.
      2. At your DNS provider, add the A record shown in the dialog.
      3. Wait for the DNS changes to propagate. This can take some time.
  5. Click Save.
